NEW STAFF

When Manny Leite returns to the Essex Library this time, it will be as Reference Librarian and Assistant Director. He plans to share the positive, passionate, professionalism and personal commitment of a Tiverton native coming home.

Leite sees the position as a dream come true. After earning a masters degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Rhode Island, he worked as a reference librarian before becoming a library director in Florida. In his first library he experienced renovation, in the second, he came to troubleshoot and manage a newly constructed building. Full of enthusiasm and experience, he’s coming full circle in coming home to his family with his three year-old-son, Holden.

Manny feels Essex is more than just a library; it is a part of his family history that he hopes to share with his son. One of his favorite memories was the sound of footsteps echoing down the long, narrow stairs to the former basement storage that had become the Children’s and Teen areas. To him, the sound of footsteps meant it was time to go home with his mom for lunch, and he didn’t want to leave.

Now he sees the same reluctance in his son, with whom he looks forward to sharing the storyhours and books that brought him so much pleasure.

Welcome Manny. We look forward to many years together.

FROM THE BUILDING COMMITTEE

Building Committee Update: The Library Building Committee is still pursuing a suitable site for the new library.  Several possibilities exist at the time of this writing, including the Souza Road property.  The Committee is hoping to have a specific site in view by the end of September.  In another area, Ms. Mainiero, our Library Consultant, is nearing completion of the final draft of her report.  The Building Committee will be reviewing it in September, as it will be our major guide for the design of the new facility.

Don’t forget:    September is National Library Card Sign Up Month
