Friends fundraisers

Sponsoring a Book:

Your donation to the Friends will allow the library to purchase a new book in your name, or in the name of someone you love or want to honor. Choose from an age level or subject area. A bookplate will be placed in the book to commemorate your gift. It’s a wonderful way to honor a birthday, anniversary, special occasion, or provide a memorial.

Miles of Pennies for Programs:

Even the youngest can help collect a Mile of Pennies. 84,480 of them will provide $844.80 for children’s and teen programs. To date, the Friends have collected about a quarter of a mile. Jars are at the Circulation Desk at Essex. With $248 since collection began, we have reached about 1/4 mile ($140.40 this year.). Help us roll along!

Classic canvas bags with the Essex library imprint, and our new aprons with the Friends logo are available for purchase. Ask at the Checkout desk. Bags and our new aprons grossed about $219 to date.

Return receipts requested:

Thanks to support from local supermarkets, Grand Central, Lees, and Clements, you can turn your cash register receipts in at the Library. A percentage of your purchase totals will be donated by the markets.

FOTL volunteers will sort and process the receipts. Refunds will be used to extend and support library services. We expect to have income to report from the hundreds of receipts in our Winter Newsletter.

Earth Day All Year!

Make a world of difference by recycling your used ink jet printer/fax cartridges. In an effort to place fewer plastic products into our landfills, the Friends have joined a partnership with RecycleFirst/AAA Environmental, Inc.

The program provides mail-in bags that are pre-paid and pre-addressed for your convenience. RecycleFirst will pay the Essex Public Library for every good-condition cartridge that is recovered. To date recycling has garnered $64.78

Friends Fabulous Finds, our major fundraiser was held on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Your donations of collectibles, gently used books, and talent helped the Friends earn over $1200 this year.
