A Note from The Friends about the 2020 Book Sale

The scheduled Friends of Tiverton Libraries Annual Book Sale, usually held in June, has been canceled this year due to health concerns related to COVID 19.  The book sale is the Friends’ largest fundraiser, supporting much of the library’s programming (speakers, workshops, entertainers, museum passes, and supplies for activities for all ages), and the organization regrets the cancellation on many levels. The Friends enjoy working with the dozens of volunteers who help out, appreciate handling nice books generously donated by the community, and like recycling books and passing them on at a very low cost so others can enjoy them.

As for postponing to another date, the guidelines for social distancing, crowd size, and materials handling make it difficult to plan. The Friends are not accepting donations for the sale at this time. The priority is the health and safety of volunteers, book donors, library staff, and shoppers.  If it’s possible to hold it later this year, the Friends will notify the community via information in the library electronic newsletter and the local media.
