Tiverton Library Tiverton Library is pleased to offer free wireless Internet access to our patrons. Here are answers to some questions you might have about using wireless Internet in theLibrary.
Q. How can I use wireless Internet at the Library?
A. Wireless access uses the WiFi standard (also known as IEEE 802.11b). Most users can simply bring their wireless-enabled laptop computer or other wireless device to the Library and turn it on. The computer will automatically recognize the wireless network. Our network name is Tiv library. The Library cannot guarantee your equipment will work with the Library's network.
Q. How does it work?
A. Our wireless access point communicates with your wireless device. When yourwireless network card senses a signal, a message appears on your screen indicating awireless network is available. Our network name is Tiv library.
Q. Will I need any special settings or passwords to connect?
A. No special encryption settings, user names, or passwords are required.
Q. Is my information safe while using wireless?
A. Your information is not protected while using wireless, unless you are connected to a web page that employs encryption (stores, banks, etc.) Keep this in mind if you areaccessing sensitive business or personal information.
Q. Are there any restrictions on my use of the Internet?
A. Wireless users agree to abide by the the Library's Internet Public Use Policy & Guidelines which prohibits abusive or illegal activity while using the Library's Internet service.
Q. Can I print while using wireless?
A. Printing is not available. If you need to print, please save your work to disk, flash drive or e-mail files to yourself, then login to a library workstation and send print jobs to a printer. Or ask to borrow a flash drive from the circulation desk to save your work and bring it to a computer station to print.
You may renew the items you have checked out by visiting the library, calling the circulation desk at the library, or reviewing your account online and clicking the renew my items link.
You may apply for a library card either by visiting the circulation desk, or by clicking on the link below to register for a temporary card and then stopping in for your permanent card within 30 days.
Tiverton Library Services belongs to the statewide Ocean State Libraries (OSL). When you get a OSL library card, you can use it in over 50 public libraries throughout the state of Rhode Island. You may borrow items from any OSL public library by either visiting that library yourself, or by having your local library obtain the materials for you. You may return materials borrowed from an OSL library and other OSL libraries may obtain the materials for you. You may return materials borrowed from a OSL library at and other OSL library. The card is free of charge to Rhode Island residents. OSL cards are available to Rhode Island residents free of charge. Non residents may purchase a full use card for $115 per year. Proof of identity with photo and current address is required. Valid types of identification include, but aren't restricted to, such items as:
Driver's License
Car Registration
Rental leases or receipts
State ID
College ID
Utility bill or receipt
Children under 16 may use their parent/guardian listing in the phone book as verfication of address and telephone number.must have a parent or guardian with them to obtain a library card. Once you have filled out an application and shown identification, you will receive a OSL card. The card can then be used to check out library materials. You must have your library card with you to borrow materials. Replacement of a lost card is $1.00 fee. Old and worn out cards are replaced for free. You are responsible for all items checked out on your card.
