Save the Date: Spring Garden Expo
Saturday, April 5th, 11:00am-3:00pm, Community Room
Spring is in the air -- join us for our second annual Earth Day Garden Expo!
This FREE event will feature free seeds, soil testing, and advice from URI Master Gardeners, gardening books for sale, a raffle to benefit outdoor library programming, family activities, as well as representatives from organizations from around New England.
A URI Master Gardening kiosk will also be available, with Master Gardeners to respond to your gardening questions! Bring a soil sample from your garden for FREE soil testing with the URI Master Gardeners. Please see the instructions below for how to prepare your soil sample for testing.
Soil Sampling Instructions
For best results, use a spade to collect a thin slice of soil from the root zone, about 6 inches down. Take about 1⁄2 cup from each of several spots in the same area (for example, the lawn or the vegetable garden) and mix them together. Allow the soil to air dry on newspapers – please make sure the soil is dry before having it tested. Put about 1 cup of the mixed soil into a clean plastic or paper bag and label it with the area it came from. Bring it in for a FREE test! Trained URI Master Gardener volunteers will test your soil’s pH, evaluate its texture and give you a report with recommendations for actions to improve it.
This event does NOT require registration, but you may sign up below to receive email reminders.
